Our History

When we started in 1995, our goal was simple: To do better work with an eye toward completion and success, not checking the boxes. Our corporate goal is to make a lasting difference in the lives of every individual we work with in corporate settings.

Starting out in outplacement, we aimed to empower companies to improve flexibility with workforce planning, by helping them humanely and quickly transition their former valued employees and reduce post-termination employment litigation risk. We did this by contracting with human resources executives at leading employers to provide individualized, customized, specialized boutique outplacement consulting services to their exiting employees. Our work was so effective that it was considered novel, and our clients asked us to help them solve other problems related to employees and to conduct strategic human resources planning. Our first add-on services were HR strategic planning, team assessments, communications consulting, compensation consulting, compliance audits, interim HR placements, global assessments and reorganizations, and finally executive search, which we introduced in 1997. Cutting edge, forward thinking, creative, competitive, passionate executive search.

We listened to the deep needs of Silicon Valley’s best human resources executives. Over the next 25 years, our growing network of HR professionals and their evolving needs resulted in adding new capabilities, including HR Executive Search, People Operations, Culture, Diversity, Talent Acquisition and Business Partners; leadership development and executive coaching; compensation consulting; recruiting assessments; and on-call startup HR consulting.

In 2002 we made the strategic decision to refuse all searches except HR ones so that we could deepen our HR network and provide quicker, more specialized HR searches.

In the past two and a half decades, we’ve seen a lot happen in the tech market economically, both good and challenging. We rode the wild wave of the dot-com boom, developing aggressive, same-day hiring strategies for our clients. We survived the bust, helping over 100 clients do the same by successfully and quickly adjusting their workforces in a humane and well-organized fashion. We weathered the Great Recession, coming out of it as the top HR Executive Search firm based on our reputation for fast, disciplined HR executive searches and our red-carpet treatment of all candidates. We assisted our clients and candidates in returning to “normal” as the economy recovered and human capital became harder to attract, engage and retain. And now, at a time when creativity and innovation is the name of the people ops game, we’re helping our clients transform and pivot to stay ahead of the talent management curve.

From Valerie Frederickson & Co. to Frederickson Partners

Since being founded, the firm changed its name from Valerie Frederickson & Company to Frederickson Pribula Li to Frederickson Partners. Through it all, we’ve learned that agility, ability and leaning in are equally important. In reinventing ourselves, expanding our capabilities, and increasing our focus on metrics and analytics, we’ve kept in mind that we’re ultimately working with people, thus helping our clients do the same. The wisdom and grit that evolve solely from experience guide our decisions and enable us to stay true to our core principles of compassion, integrity, excellence and preparation.

Frederickson Partners is Now Part of Gallagher

In May 2022, Frederickson was acquired by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., a global insurance, risk management and consulting firm and a Fortune 500 company with $6.9 billion in revenue. With this exciting move, as part of Gallagher’s global Executive Search group, we join a team of executive search consultants in industries including healthcare, restaurants and hospitality, retail, manufacturing and public sector. We also leverage Gallagher’s expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and employee benefits and compensation consulting.
